Driving licence data

You are here:

Driving licence data is helpful in understanding the number of people who hold licences of different categories, as well as the demographics of those who hold them.  Information on the different licence categories available can be checked here. The Department for Transport publishes information on driving licences which is also divided by postcode area e.g. AB10. Click here to access driving licence data.

Aside from reviewing trends the information is not always used in road safety analysis techniques as there is no direct link between drivers involved in collisions and their DVLA records. If matching were to take place then it may be possible to analyse driving endorsements for example, but as the driver licence number is not collected this is not possible. More information on endorsements is available here.

Information on driving offences is published by the Home Office, available via the following link – Police recorded crime and outcomes data tables.
