Demographics are the statistical characteristics of human populations such as age or income. Demographic data refers to the socio-economic information expressed statistically including employment, education, birth and death rates, marriage rates and more etc.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) collects and publishes demographic data in forms of national decennial census and ongoing releases related to the economy, labour markets, employment, people, population, community, business, industry and trade.
Nomis is a free additional service, provided by the ONS, which publishes statistics related to population, society, and the labour market at national, regional, and local levels. This includes data from current and previous censuses, as well as annually updated population estimates, cause of death and migration statistics. It also includes economic activity indicators such as job density, earnings, and workday population. Local Area Reports are available on Nomis for any parish, ward, village, or town for download and include information on the characteristics of people and households in the area. Data sets can be downloaded based on a range of geographies including region, local authority, parliamentary constituency and middle layer super output area, and a postcode search feature is available.
